Hotline The hotline
covers all of Western Maryland (Garrett, Allegheny, Washington, and
Frederick Counties). This is a service that is available 24
hours a day, 7 days a week. It is staffed by paid and
volunteer trained professionals. For FY 98 it served 8962
consumers. It is interesting to note that of those calls 5051
were calls from consumers over 18 years old. The hotline very
closely coordinates with local mental health professionals, the
police, the emergency room, and other provider agencies.
Mobile Crisis Services This program provides 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week staff available by phone and staff available to meet with
individuals face-to-face Monday-Friday 1 PM--11 PM.
Currently mobile crisis staff meet with individuals in the Emergency
Room and may assess appropriateness for a residential crisis bed
and/or provide crisis intervention and information and referral to
mental health services.
Emergency Service Provider Training Provide basic mental health training for up to 75
emergency service workers. Focus on Frederick City Police,
small jurisdiction city police, State Police and Sheriff's
Department. Development of a easily accessible card listing
mental health emergency service and resource numbers for police so
they can give numbers to clients or families of clients that they
interact with.
Jail Mental
Health Program Identification,
treatment and case management services provided to individuals in
the detention center who have severe and persistent mental illness,
and/or are at risk of re-institutionalization (psychiatric
hospitalization or re-incarceration due to a serious mental
illness).
Peer
Support Services Provides for
a drop in center with a variety of socially supportive
activities. Provides community education and
support.
Case Management
Extenders Funds are used to
pay the wages of 3 mental health consumers to assist case managers
in the provision of case management services to approximately 25
clients.
Scholarship/Leadership Development At least 5 consumers will attend 5 major events
such as the Annual Mental Hygiene Administration Conference, and the
Annual On Our Own Conference, which will promote consumers abilities
to participate in the development and refinement of the mental
health system.
